Our Story: We Surf - Spreading the Joy of Surfing and Promoting Inclusivity for Young People in Need

Picture this: a group of passionate surfers coming together to create a movement that's all about riding waves and making sure everyone gets a chance to experience the thrill of the ocean. We're not just about surfing, though. We're on a mission to break down barriers and promote equality and wellbeing for young people in the community. We're also here to educate, inspire, and empower. Through our charitable safe surf programs, we're making sure that surfing is accessible to all, regardless of their background, barriers or demographics.

Our story begins in Pottsville, a small coastal town on the Tweed Coast in Northern New South Wales. It is here that Andrea and Sasha Stocker, the founders of the renowned local surf program, Tweed Coast Surf School, established We Surf Family Australia. The communities in Tweed and Northern Rivers have faced numerous challenges, including social and financial hardships, as well as natural disasters such as the devastating floods in 2022. Despite being situated in an area with both blue-collar workers and affluent residents, Andrea and Sasha witnessed how many children were unable to participate in or continue with their surfing programs. Recognising the necessity of supporting local families and the vital, positive impact that surfing can bring these young people in need, they embarked on a mission to offer assistance through the charitable initiative now known as We Surf.

We Surf’s goal is to foster a sense of belonging and unity among all participants while celebrating the joy of riding the waves. We believe that through our Safe Surf programs, we can create inclusive environments that promote equality and provide a platform for personal growth, development and wellbeing in the young people of our communities.

Join us at We Surf as we ride the waves of change to make a difference in the lives of youth in need.
